Essay for my online portfolio.When it comes to the medium of photography I try to engage different techniques into my work. In my mini portfolio I have included darkroom prints, digital prints, medium format and studio work. When it comes to taking pictures, I think outside the box and do things that are unique and will stand out from other peoples work. I prefer film photography and being in the darkroom but I have skills in digital photography and have experience of using studio lighting and I am taking extra Photoshop lessons to widen my knowledge of the program.
Throughout my work I relate to various photographers, both film and digital and from various time periods. I have many inspirations that relate to my work and one example is Terence Donovan. He is an 1960's black and white film fashion photographer and he inspires me because my dream is to become a fashion photographer and to work for vogue just like he did. There is a sharpness yet elegant feel to his pictures and the use of a film camera creates this
Life is but a DreamWe are just unnourished frail bodies,
overfed with white lies and short-lived-euphorias.
Books filled with black letters,
etching lurid images into our utmost dreams.
Veering us from the big picture...
the one we fail to paint ourselves.
Our fists much too busy with fights,
that we are bound to lose.
Too occupied in line waiting,
for creativity to be let loose like a stray dog.
As if we will find home in this pursuit of happiness...
but we only enclose each other in small rooms
with nothing but old laptops.
How many times I've guessed which letter could it be...
Which letter could it be?
To free us from havoc-stricken-thoughts?
They come and go, unending like 24 hour subway stations.
There's no break for this lonely man,
heaving every breathe of stale air
into my overused lungs...
Living in confined walls of flesh
held up with brittle paper-mache bones.
Which day is it that I will burst out from this cage of a life?
